And We're Off!!

Mornin', everyone!

We've got to leave out of here in about 20 minutes, to go to both my son's and my oldest's daughter's orthodontist appointment. My son is going for his first follow-up since getting his braces off, and my daughter is going for a consultation, to see if she needs them. The orthodontist said that he may be able to do some preventative work now, which would eliminate braces all together. Wouldn't that be wonderful???

Problem is, it's another gloomy, cloudy, rainy day here, and all I really want to do is crawl back into my bed and hibernate. Do you think I'd get in any real trouble if I gave my 13-year-old the car keys, and told him to drive them there?

Just kidding.

Maybe.

Say hello and let me know that you stopped by, and I'll check in when I get back.

sounds like a day full of co-pays..that bites! I hope that we do not have to get braces on anyone here...but I think that the odds are against us! Keep us updated!

Awwww... I feel so warm and fuzzy! All of my girlie friends popped in to say hello! :)

N. was in and out of the chair in about 10 minutes, and was fitted with a clear, bottom retainer. In fact, this has me a bit confused, 'cause I thought his orthodontist said he'd be getting a wire retainer for the bottom today. Ah, well.... I think the clear ones are more aestetically pleasing, anyway! He's got another follow-up in six weeks.

He did a series of panoramic x-rays on R., and then called me in to talk about what his thoughts were after her exam. As he sees it right now, she's got enough gaps between her teeth to accomodate the 12-year-molars (which he said should be coming in between six months and a year from now), and her wisdom teeth (which are just starting to sprout up, and will be coming in in her teens), so she may very well escape not needing full-blown braces at all. He said regardless, she's too young to have anything done right now, anyway (geez... you'd think he could tell me that BEFORE I had her plop her butt down in the chair, at the rate of another $30 bucks!).

I left there scheduling another appointment for her to see him in nine months, but you know what? I think I'm just going to keep on having her regular dentist check on her progress when she gets her cleanings, and if she needs braces, her dentist can tell me. Not only will it wind up saving me money in the long run, it'll also save me an HOUR drive up and back to take her to the orthodontist's office, too!

The really cool thing is, R. spotted a baby deer in the outskirts of the parking lot right before we went in. (I know all you country bumpkins are laughing at me, but you have to remember... we're city folk here! :) I wanted to try to get a picture of him/her with my cell phone, but I was way too far away to get more than a blip on the screen, and when I tried to move closer, he strolled back into the bush -- probably to find his Mama. It was an amazing thing, though.

Sorry I didn't get back to you guys sooner. With my husband home early today, it was tough getting a turn on this thing (even though the poor guy usually relinquishes it to me most of the time! :). Plus, R. wanted a turn, so I caved to her, too. It truly sucks having only one computer sometimes!

Have a great night, my friends. Talk to you in the morning! :)

We have a dreaded trip to the ortho coming up as well to see if Sam needs braces. I'm not looking forward to it!

Hope your trip went well!

Tanya -- are you going to the orthodontist's because your dentist recommended that he needs braces, or because YOU think he does? I'll tell you, if it's just your opinion, I'd hold off until his dentist concurs. Orthodontists have this nasty habit of just slapping braces on kids who don't necessarily need them. I know my son's ortho. was perfectly willing (and probably able) to put some on my daughter, as well. I think I'm just going to hold off for awhile, and wait until our family dentist says she definitely needs them before I even THINK about plunking down another $5,000 bucks!

I hope things work favorably for you and your little man.
